1719 is Park Ye-eun’s first full-length album after the sun set on Wonder Girls. Under the arty sobriquet HA:TFELT (a portmanteau of “hot” and “heartfelt”), she’s found a robust second act, raising her voice and reveling in her musical and spiritual self-discovery. The bossa nova/trap “Pluhmm” sways like a palm tree on a Brazilian beach. With just voice and guitar, “Read Me” is graceful simplicity. Her pop receptors are sharp; “Satellite” and “Sweet Sensation” hit all the comforting K-pop notes—synth-driven rhythms, tender vocals, rap breaks. Most notably, “Life Sucks” reveals Park Ye-eun’s vulnerable, still-beating heart. The English-language track addresses her strained relationship with her father, a church pastorwho was imprisoned for fraud: “If I only could go back and tell myself: ‘Don’t you trust him, he already hurt you’/When you cried on your knees, showing some regrets/Wish I could've known better.”
