Funky Town Grooves combines
Alfie Silas' first two albums, both of which were issued on RCA:
Alfie, released in 1982, and
Be Yourself, released in 1983. The first album features
Silas' biggest solo hit, the ballad "There I Go," along with "A Puppet to You," which, in terms of early-'80s pop-R&B, is almost -- almost -- on the level of anything produced by
Kashif or
the System.
Be Yourself was produced by
Larry Graham and is led by "You Put the L in Love."
Silas is known more for her extensive background vocal work, but serious fans of R&B from this era will appreciate the re-circulation of these otherwise neglected albums, as well as the inclusion of the 12" mixes.
