Canadian pianist
Richard Whiteman's
All or Nothing at All is a nice friendly straight-ahead bebop-oriented piano trio set. Six of the ten songs are standards and the other four, although originals or obscure, are in the same mainstream genre.
Whiteman has a cheerful and swinging style and he is inspired by the fine support of bassist Brandi Disterheft and drummer Sly Juhas. The group's fresh variations even on such warhorses as "Lady Be Good," "In the Still of the Night," and the title cut make this a delightful outing easily recommended to fans of straight-ahead jazz. ~ Scott Yanow
