On this entry in EMI's
All the Best series, the "pop" side of the reggae-pop group
UB40 is explored, so frat boys, bridal parties, and vacationers everywhere can rest assured that the U.K. group's summery party-starter and world-favorite
Neil Diamond cover, "Red Red Wine," is on the track list. So are their hit
Elvis cover "(I Can't Help) Falling in Love with You" and their take on "Breakfast in Bed" with Chrissy Hynde as guest vocalist, plus their football anthem "Swing Low" and others you may know like "You're Always Pulling Me Down," "Cherry Oh Baby," and "If It Happens Again." As far as their more reggae-leaning numbers, there's the playful "Rat in Mi Kitchen," "Version Girl," and the album version of "Here I Am," which works a cover of
Bob Marley's "Small Axe" into the mix. That's a wealth of great music, but their early calling card hit "One in Ten" is left off, along with some other songs with sobering commentary, suggesting that
All the Best really means All the Non-Political Best. Even if this collection is a great asset to any pool party where it's played, this isn't the whole
UB40 picture.
