Renato Teixeira is a successful artist in the crossover between the caipira paulista (São Paulo redneck) musical tradition and mainstream MPB. Brazilian caipira is naturally a very different style in regards to its American counterpart. Shared with Natan Maques, Teixeira's arranger and musician for 26 years, the album makes possible more freedom in Maques's arrangements (he also plays several instruments), reaching closer to mainstream MPB, even with surprising renditions: funky-caipira for "Tutu Com Torresmo," almost Jovem Guarda for "Transformação," and four-to-the-bar swing in "Tia Edith." A delicate acoustic release with no drums (just percussion), different from the precedent live album by Teixeira, which consisted of a collage of his 30 years of career hits, this one has lots of novelties, such as new interpretations for old Teixeira classics like "Rural" and "Invernada" and four unpublished songs ("A poeira é Ouro Em Pó" and "Tá Na Ponta Da Língua," with Natan; "Teixeira," by Teixeira, and "Alvorada Brasileira" by Teixeira's son Chico Teixeira). The album also has guest artists Cássio Poletto (violin) and Osvaldinho Do Acordeon (accordion). ~ Alvaro Neder
