Recorded in 1971 to commemorate the amalgamation of the
3rd Carabiniers and the Royal Scots Greys, this set by the
Royal Scots Dragoon Guards' combined military bands became the quintessential Scottish pipe and drum collection. Released in 1972 by RCA, the "Amazing Grace" single (featuring both bands) itself went on to sell over six million copies and is largely responsible for the enduring popularity of historic military music in the U.K. and elsewhere. In addition to the much-loved title track, the bands offer an inspiring array of martial and regimental tunes that reference the regiment's storied history and display why they were one of the premier military ensembles of the British Army. The album was captured warmly in stereo at the Redford Barracks training facility outside of Edinburgh. ~ Timothy Monger
