Six Going On Seven's
American't (Or Won't) primarily appeals to listeners on a visual level. Stimulating cover art, intriguing layout and packaging, as well as an interesting album title suggest high hopes for an artist.
Six Going On Seven still maintain a sound reminiscent of
Buffalo Tom, as they have for the basis of their career. On this ten-song album, they also seem to posses a very safe rock sound. Stripped down and vacant,
American't (Or Won't) is disappointing in its inability to grasp the listener with a hook. The sound is also evocative of
Moods for Moderns, who create a similar stripped-down, easygoing style of pop/rock. As the old saying goes, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." What would have been interesting on this album is to see
Six Going On Seven venture a big gamble, whether it be a major variation in music or singing style or something else altogether. Instead, they have played it safe and ended up with a decent, yet unprovocative release. ~ Kurt Morris
