Anne Dudley has quite a resume: she was in the Art of Noise, worked with (either in the music-making sense or as producer) Jaz Coleman (ex-Killing Joke), Seal, Duane Eddy, Pulp, and Pavarotti, and scored the movies THE CRYING GAME and AMERICAN HISTORY X. At home in pop, film music, and classical, Dudley refuses to be limited by genre or style. On this album, Dudley, explores the more classical side of her musical personality, composing for a string orchestra, percussion, brass, and choir. She draws upon the church-oriented works of composers J.S. Bach and Thomas Tallis; the 20th-century composers Samuel Barber, Steve Reich, and Ralph Vaughn Williams; and the atmospheric electronic pop of Laurie Anderson and Peter Gabriel for a collection of emotionally spiritual works. The results are melodious, dynamic and vibrant, evocative of spiritual quests and comforting religious devotion. ANCIENT & MODERN will appeal to fans of classical, new age, and forward-looking rock fans alike.
