On September 12, 2014, at the Teatro Uama in Carmelo, Uruguay, the Brazilian singer, guitarist and composer Rosa Passos, who is considered today as one of the greatest bossa nova performers, was recorded live. This recording had never been published until 2016. Titles like Olhos Verdes and Só danço samba are heard here in versions that highlight the jazzy phrasing of Rosa Passos and her fellows as well as their complicity. You have to emphasize the fluidity of Rosa Passos' phrasing, which has the unpredictability of an improvisation, as in Verbos do amor where her voice suddenly rises by increasing volume, an unexpected effect that provokes the applause of the audience. And like any great artist, she knows how to lean on the best musicians to bring another string to her bow. © Qobuz / GG
