Atlantic is a VIP in the history of soul music. Founded in 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson, this label, like its subdivisions Stax/Volt and Atco, allowed the genre to stand at the top of the charts notably during the 60s. The proof is in this magnificent collection bringing together 29 albums published between 1959 and 1975. Like Ali Baba’s cave of treasures, the collection features unmistakable greats (Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Booker T. & The M.G’s) and the works of some less broadcast, even a little forgotten, artists (Clarence Wheeler, Howard Tate, Sam Dees) that are no less fascinating. © Marc Zisman/Qobuz
