A melodic punk rock group not unlike
Jawbreaker with a bit of
Social Distortion thrown in and the occasional rockabilly-ish lick,
Sixer plays some decent music with not much in the way of frills or originality.
Sixer is very much like the capable and faithful opening band that locals enjoy but sometimes get bored of quick. This may or may not be the case in the bandmembers' hometown scene in Richmond, VA. Not likely to go anywhere with its formula sound, this group of sorta tough guys (featuring a couple of disgruntled former members of
Ann Beretta) at least boasts a singer, Leer Baker, with a distinctive,
Mike Ness-like bark. The first few songs on this disc jump out and grab you, but the album soon veers into rabid stupidity, especially on "RS3," a song where Baker brags that he "f*cks like an animal" and "blah, blah, blah, drinks too much, blah, blah, blah, snorts cocaine." How very rock & roll. ~ Adam Bregman
