Salzburg Summer Festival. On this August 17, 1980, a year before his death, this penultimate concert by Karl Böhm with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra reveals the intense mutual committment he enjoyed with the wonderful orchestra he regarded as "his own". Their art of interpretation is exemplary in its naturalness, offering both broad brushstrokes and an eager attention to detail. Even just listening to this concert at home you can feel its special ambiance — with the broad, insistent seriousness of the conductor's tempi and the passionate response of the orchestra that was so devoted to him. This was a labour of love. (Orfeo/Qobuz)
