This 1968 recording finds The Count with his orchestra during a period of transition. In the late '60's, Basie recorded a series of indifferent commercial records (which often found famous singers using the Basie band as a prop). However, this live recording captures the indelible charm of Basie and his orchestra, and proves that Basie never really faltered, even during a period often regarded as lesser. (Basie's studio efforts would become more consistent after reuniting with producer, Norman Granz, in the 1970's.)
