Caribbean Ros could be titled "1970s Ros" or even "Vocal Ros." Voice, whether
Ros or chorus, is heard in eight of only ten tracks. "Do You Like the Samba" gets things off to a good start. A rhythm section with very punchy electric bass and conga sustains the pace, suiting it well at least for The Love Boat-era dancing; guitar and keyboard solos in places are other relatively new devices for
Ros. The cover of "Tequila" is downright funky, as is "Mama Loves Pompa," a longer number in which
Ros mentions women's liberation by way of introducing a new dance, the pompa. In short, the beat is what makes it the
Caribbean Ros; this is the music of carnival (or at least a good cruise ship). ~ Tony Wilds
