It's hard to find a young band that doesn’t integrate a wide range of influences—and Brooklyn’s Bombay Rickey are more ambitious than most, tapping into opera, exotica, Latin, Bollywood, jazz, spaghetti western, surf rock, and other odds and ends on a set that mixes originals and covers. The five-piece manage it all quite gracefully, with vocalist Kamala Sankaram displaying considerable technique as she channels Asha Bhosle and Yma Sumac. Particular standouts include the hop-along “Coyote in the Land of the Dead,” the groovy “Dum Haro Dum,” the classic surf guitar of “Pondicherry Surf Goddess,” and the mambo of “Taki Rari.”
