To sow the seeds of confusion, the Edide album here is not the same as the
E Dide that was issued in the West in 1995 (in fact, there's no date on it). It is, however, paired with 1986's Let Them Say for a strong groove fest, especially on the title cut and "Bami Wa Solution." With a total of 16 cuts, nothing goes on too long, so the band doesn't have the chance to stretch out that it really needs. But there's still plenty of incisive guitar work from
King Sunny Ade himself, and the percussion percolates and simmers throughout, with plenty of juju call-and-response phrasing in the songs. While these reissues are wonderful in general, and certainly do a service to those in the West who never had a chance to own the Nigerian originals, a little more thought would have been appreciated, both in the way LPs were juxtaposed on CD and to information in the liner notes.
