Clementine was released by Clarion Records in 1964, three years after
The Bobby Darin Story. The company licensed ten previously released songs from Atco for this collection, though it is not billed as a compilation.
Clementine is packaged strangely, because there is no essay on the back cover (the mark of a new release) and no explicit concept like "greatest hits" or "songs you might have missed." The latter would be a good description for some of the songs here, like "Spring Is Here" and "What Can I Say After I Say I'm Sorry," which are currently unavailable on CD.
Clementine is not a best-of, but does contain one song each from
Winners and
It's You or No One, two from
This Is Darin, and three from
For Teenagers Only and
Love Swings. In addition to the unavailable tunes, the highlight of this otherwise dull collection is "That Lucky Old Sun," popularized by
Louis Armstrong.
