This is
Craig Richards' third mix for the
Fabric series -- the first was 2001’s Fabric 01, followed by 2004’s Fabric 15, where he used the Tyrant alias. Here, he operates as the Nothing Special, an alias he dons whenever he spins between live acts. He remains remarkably adept when it comes to assembling a set, not limiting himself to recent house and techno releases as he uses roughly as many ‘90s tracks as 2010/2011 tracks. The gradient, as usual for him, is slight; there’s a steady build to a moderately energetic climax around halfway through, while the variety of the selections isn’t obvious unless you skip randomly across the set. He favors stern, slightly freaky material that is lean yet heavy on percussion play, highlighted by
Two Lone Swordsmen's “Rico’s Helly” (1996),
San Proper &
Awanto 3's “Black Burger” (2010),
Conforce’s “Rare Education” (2010), and Maurice Fulton's “Space” (1999). ~ Andy Kellman
