Sub Dub's Kingston-inspired creations are cut with a stiff dose of electronica abstraction similar to the less traditionally rooted experiments of
Bill Laswell and On-U Sound. Dancehall Malfunction, the group's Asphodel debut, adorns dub reggae's reverb-drenched simplicity with shimmering lengths of synthesizers, influences drawn from trip-hop and ambient techno, and a production quality traditional dub could only dream of (but which also tends to rob the music of its rustic beauty). The group's strongest, most developed outing to date. ~ Sean Cooper
