The self-titled debut album from
Dangerman, a NYC duo prone to beefing up their modern rock with classic rock conventions, is a whole lotta mess about absolutely nothing. The 11 songs here sport some wall-shaking sounds and flashy studio tricks, and Chris Scianni and Dave Borla make an engaging pair of cultural samplers (superproducer Brendan O'Brien is on board to fill in the musical gaps), but
Dangerman is never quite aware of what it's trying to do or say. One minute, it's a Latin groove steered by rapid percussion rolls, the next minute, it's a guitar-heavy, Friday-night anthem for boys on the prowl. It all adds up to a sloppy mural of noise compounded by an equally hazy vision. ~ Michael Gallucci
