Dirt! is refreshingly funny, lashing out at their fellow Canadian
Celine Dion (featuring
Stephen Fearing on guitar), the human products of the new economy ("Great to Be a Nerd" and "Log in to You"), the TV-watching male couch potato ("A Man Has Needs," a hilarious parody on polished hard rock à la
Guns N' Roses), their homeland Canada ("Rocks and Trees"), and the Gaelic nostalgia ("The Gaelic Song"), as well as brainlessness itself ("Sponges"). Furthermore, there is also the usual tidbit of black humor ("Johnny Came Home Headless," with a completely new interpretation of the famous title line from "I Ain't Got Nobody") and a real hymn about a very important subject ("I Am Cow!!!!"), informing the attentive listener that "the ozone layer gets thinner/from the outcome of my dinner." All in all,
Dirt! proved that
the Arrogant Worms still had a firm grasp on the title of Canadian satirists number one. ~ Frank Eisenhuth
