During the Mission features
DJ Squeeky's bass-heavy, synth-laden production and a heavy amount of Southern thug rapping courtesy of the Big Cheeze camp. Though
Tom Skeemask,
Criminal Mane, and Thugsta demonstrate some obvious talent on the mic, Squeeky's beats are undoubtedly the highlight here. He isn't an auteur in the sense of
George Clinton or
Dr. Dre, yet Squeeky does know how to craft tracks for his posse to drop rhymes over and particularly understands how to create catchy hooks. Similarly, the album isn't a masterpiece and won't hold up over time as a true Southern rap classic, but it is a step forward for Squeeky as he continues to hone his style and develop his cast of rappers. ~ Jason Birchmeier
