ALBUM

Het album Insomniac was ontworpen voor de late nachten in de clubs. Maar, de uit 2010 afkomstige opvolger Euphoria is net zo helder als de albumtitel, een ferme ommekeer terug naar de romantiek van de casanova. Niet dat Iglesias het idee van een dansvloerhit compleet heeft opgegeven, of dat hij alleen op ouderwets ballad-werk vertrouwt. Soms laat hij een kil laagje toe van zanger/producer Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic), zoals op zijn duet met Nicole Scherzinger. Op “One Day at a Time” laat hij Akon een Auto-Tune reggaegroove neerzetten. Dit alles is genoeg om Euphoria modern te laten aanvoelen zonder dat het zijn oudere publiek van hem verwijdert. Ondanks al deze hedendaagse tierelantijnen, ligt het hart van het album in Igelsias' romantische ballads, met het soort ge-croon dat culturen doorkruist. Zo erg zelfs dat de nummers afwisselend in het Spaans en Engels gezongen worden, haast zonder dat het je opvalt.
