After
Love Battery's steady improvement between 1991's
Between the Eyes and the following year's excellent project
Dayglo, one would figure that 1993's
Far Gone would also improve. Unfortunately,
Far Gone loses some of the interesting complexities buried in the mix of
Dayglo and instead concerns itself with a more blocky, bigger rock sound that isn't nearly as creative. Though Kevin Whitworth's psychedelic lead-guitar punctuations are still steady on "Half Past You" and "Float," most of the songwriting on this album is sloppy, and the mix of instruments isn't as clearly defined. A disappointment. ~ Matt Carlson
