An offshoot of the whole
Soilwork/
Darkane axis (which also includes the
Pantera-leaning neo-thrash outfit
the Defaced),
Terror 2000 plays in a style that is equal parts retro-thrash, Swedish death metal, and cartoonish punk rock decadence. The lyrics -- which touch on such topics as headbanging, driving fast, killing people at random, and even
Terror 2000 themselves -- give a good idea of what to expect from this album; in other words, it's fast and violent, but ultimately it's all in good fun. Some of it's a little corny, like the lyrics on the opener "Back With Attack" ("We're back!/We're the Terror 2000 attack!," goes the main chant), but again, it's all in fun. Meanwhile, the musicianship and production are both excellent, although the songwriting, while solid enough, is nothing terribly special based on what these guys are capable of. Basically, this is a quintessential side-band type of album -- worth owning if you're a fan of those involved, and fun for a few listens anyway if you at least like the overall style, but still not exactly essential in the big scheme of things.
