For his third album, the fascinating Rocío Márquez joins forces with the musicians from Proyecto Lorca (Juan Jiménez on saxophone, Dani B. Marente on piano and Antonio Moreno on percussion and marimba) to explore the trails of flamenco development left behind by the great poet and musician Federico García Lorca. To ancestral folk songs collected by the latter are added, in the last tracks recorded live, references to the Symphony no. 14 in which the Russian composer Shostakovich quoted the poet, or to John Coltrane’s Olé !, which is as much influenced by Lorca. But the young musicology PhD student, already awarded with great flamenco singing prizes, brings her own personal point of view. To complete her own letras, she has adapted verses from Saint Teresa of Ávila, has collected others from Spanish literary women, which she has then adapted in fandangos, bulerías, tangos, seguiriya, alegria or caracoles, mostly composed by her. Produced, like her previous El Niňo, by the very sought-after Raül Refree (Silvia Perez Cruz, Rosalia...), Firmamento keeps the bright promises suggested by its title. © BM/Qobuz
