When a group releases an eponymous album late in their career, it frequently is a sign of starting over and regrouping. This album is no exception. First Call is a surprisingly positive album. With the departure of Marabeth Jordan, and the surrounding scandal, founding members Bonnie Keen and Marty McCall were forced to regroup. They decided to continue as they had started: as a duo. This album reflects the other side of healing; the pain is fading and it?s time to move forward. The opening track, ?Let the Healing Begin,? sets the tone for the album. It?s fresh, lively, and hopeful. ?The Prize? is another song of hope, backed by Veritas. ?Will I Find Love?? is a radio-friendly ballad with a catchy chorus, showing off Keen?s voice particularly well. ?This Side of Paradise? is another outstanding track. It?s a lovely song about the flashes of goodness seen here on earth, and really provides a great framework for Keen and McCall?s vocal blend. The album dips a bit for a couple of tracks, then picks up again with ?Sunrise On Ararat,? a vocal jazz number with Take 6. First Call is an album of restoration and hope, and McCall and Keen have made a notable new beginning for themselves. ~ Melinda Hill
