As Beenie Man and Buju Banton were vying for the dancehall crown in the early '90s, they influenced a wave of vocalists that included Lady Saw, Spragga Benz, Terror Fabulous and Buju's disciple, Mega Banton. Like his mentor, Mega Banton utilized a gruff style to chronicle life in Trenchtown.
FIRST POSITION is a solid collection of singles from a variety of reggae labels including Black Scorpio, Stone Love, and Wizard. It also features instrumental backing by such reggae legends as Steelie, Dean Frazier and Sly & Robbie. Included are original and remix versions of the hit "Sound Boy Killing" (featuring a sample of Barry White's "Playing Your Game Baby"), the dub-flavored "Gi di Gun Thing ah Ease," and others. The most impressive cuts on FIRST POSITION are Mega Banton's collaborations with Ricky General and Sherlie McLean ("Peace We Want"), General ("No Ninja, No Buju"), and dancehall legend Leroy Smart ("Mr. Want All").
