Der c-Moll-Quartettsatz ist die Schnittstelle zwischen den beiden vorliegenden Schubert-Aufnahmen. Beim Schumann-Quartett wirken die eröffnenden Tremoli wie von angstschwitzender Unruhe vorangetrieben. Nach dem Gesang der ersten Geige schießen die anschließenden Sforzati wie kleine Herzattacken hervor. Dagegen spielt das Alinde Quartett den Satz zurückhaltender, nicht nur im Tempo, sondern auch im Verlauf der Erregungskurven. Auch im Repertoire beschreiten die beiden Ensembles verschiedene Wege. Das Alinde Quartett widmet Schuberts Quartetten eine auf mehrere Jahre angelegte Gesamtaufnahme und umrahmt den späten Quartettsatz in der ersten Folge mit zwei früheren Werken. Dabei demonstrieren die Alindes ihre stilistische Flexibilität, indem sie etwa die barockisierenden Vorhalte im Andante aus dem g-Moll-Quartett des 13-jährigen Schubert „historisch“ phrasieren und mit der spannenden Auftragskomposition „Unbegun“ von Thomas Kotcheff die Sounds der Neuen Musik anklingen lassen. Das Schumann-Quartett beginnt sein Album ebenfalls mit einem Werk aus der frühen Schaffensphase und deutet schon dort jene beißende Intensität an, mit der sich Schuberts Musik mitunter ins Gedächtnis krallt. Diese Intensität bricht auch in einzelnen Phasen des „Rosamunde“-Quartetts hervor, wenn die idyllische Stimmung des Andante plötzlich ins Dramatische kippt. Und zugleich schwingt da oft jener für Schubert so typische Wehmutston mit, der auch das Klima im Menuett so anrührend eintrübt.
