Recorded during the earliest days of the
Ornette Coleman Quartet in 1959, with
Don Cherry,
Charlie Haden, and
Billy Higgins, the material featured here is all from the Atlantic period including "Peace," "Congeniality," "Free," "The Monk and the Nun," and a particularly incendiary reading of "Change of the Century." The music is all recorded in the studio, but the latter track is a different take than appeared on the original album. In addition, the sound is mono and therefore completely present and bright.
