A survivor of the 1960s,
Reuben Wilson's organ style is an outgrowth of that of
Jimmy Smith. He performs a variety of funky and bluesy originals, R&B tunes, and basic material.
Wilson's interplay with guitarist
Melvin Sparks is consistently impressive, altoist
Cochemea Gastelum adds some variety to the music, and drummer
Mike Clark is an asset. The band is tight and brings back the sound of the classic organ combo, even though it utilizes an alto rather than the usual tenor. This is fun music, easily recommended to fans of soul-jazz. ~ Scott Yanow
