This is the kind of faceless indie rock that
Juliana Hatfield can turn out in her sleep. And the various poses on this album -- whether it be the glacial heaviness of "White Frost Hills" (a stab at Palace-like significance) or the high drama of "I See How Much Has Changed" -- can't hide the weak songcraft. (Multi-tracking can't hide
Anders' glaring vocal problems either.) Curiously,
J. Mascis guests on this project and P.J. Harvey produces and contributes in spots. By the way,
Tiffany's mom is director Allison Anders (Gas, Food, Lodging) -- worth mentioning if only to avoid more negative comments.
