Whether Belasco's sound is influenced by others or simply derivative is open to argument. On various tracks his singing echoes either Sting's jazz-pop moan or
Marvin Gaye's soul falsetto. The music itself owes a tip of the hat to
Mose Allison's bop-pop and latter-day
Beatles. What is undeniable is the appeal of the mix. Two mesmerizing ballads, "I'll Never Tell" and "Without Within," stand out as the most original and compelling, and the brief closing track, "Make More Love," features delicious orchestration. ~ Tim Sheridan
