Riding the crest of the Canadian surf revival spawned by
Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, Calgary's
Huevos Rancheros do the seemingly impossible: remain true to the traditions of surf, à la
The Ventures, but kick up the tempo and volume at the same time. "What a Way to Run a Railroad" opens with a blistering riff that sounds like
Motorhead, and then goes into a supercharged surf instrumental that would do traditionalists proud. The whole affair is musically similar to
Man or Astroman?, save for the fact that a bunch of B-movie snippets aren't dropped into the mix. Good playing, good fun. ~ Sean Carruthers
