Where its predecessor leaned on soft rock and new wave, the soundtrack to the 1989 film
Ghostbusters II feels like a snapshot of its time with its blend of R&B, new jack swing, and rap. Featuring a redone version of
Ray Parker, Jr.'s original theme by
Run-D.M.C., as well as two cuts from
Bobby Brown ("On Our Own" and "We're Back") and
New Edition's "Supernatural, the film's soundtrack is like a time capsule of radio in the late '80s. Although the film didn't spawn any truly essential songs, the soundtrack makes for a nostalgic journey that fans of the film (or '80s R&B) will have fun revisiting. ~ Gregory Heaney
