Bukka White recorded the material on this disc between 1930 and 1940, and offers an excellent account of his pre-World War II output. Indeed, although
White won legions of fans on his "re-discovery" (and with good reason), many people would argue that he never bettered his earliest recordings. He wisely concentrates on these earlier works on
Panama Limited.
White's slide guitar work is not only superb but justifiably legendary, and on many songs (such as the magnificent "Fixin' To Die Blues") it is absolutely mesmerizing.
Panama Limited is a superb collection of
Bukka White's finest recordings. Despite not being heavily annotated, this album bears the mark of an artist who has been unfairly ignored for too long. ~ Thomas Ward
