Not to be confused with the twee Swedish electro-pop duo called
the Embassy, this
Embassy are an entirely standard-issue alt-rock band with little to recommend them. The hints of Christian allegory in "The Legend of the Sanddollar" are made more explicit in "God Is Dad" (sadly, that's not a typo) and "Life's a Game." Unsurprisingly, lead singer Alex Kuales delivers these unintentionally cringe-worthy lyrics in a booming style more than a little reminiscent of
Creed's
Scott Stapp, while the band drones along like an amalgam of every radio-friendly unit shifter since
Pearl Jam's
Ten.
Grasping the Invisible is a remarkably dull album, potentially of interest only to the most completely undiscriminating alternative CCM listener. ~ Stewart Mason
