Willie Gonzalez's output for the '90s was minimal, and apparently there was very little promotion of his productions by the middle of the decade. However, that should not prevent listeners from a reconsideration of his very serviceable efforts. The MP label recording machine concocted his trademark sound (a collective sound that translates well with
Gonzalez's trombone lineup) with the usual arrangers and musicians. Tunes like "Pobre Tonto," "Como Te Atreves," "Quiero Recuperarte," "Perdóname Amor," and "Enamorado de Ti Estoy" deliver as expected from
Gonzalez; incredibly, he still rose convincingly, even when his romantic style seemed to be outdated and uninteresting. A good effort for all concerned. ~ José A. Estévez, Jr.
