Formed in Auckland in 1986,
Dead Famous People had a brief but successful run as an under-the-mainstream-radar indie pop attraction. Following an EP on the beloved Flying Nun label, they moved to London, released a mini-album on
Billy Bragg's Utility record label, and recorded a Peel Session for BBC Radio 1. Meanwhile, lead singer and main songwriter
Dons Savage was recording with bands including
Saint Etienne and
the Chills. In 1990, the group broke up just before releasing their second album, 1991's All Hail the Daffodil.
