Sincere in its execution, but ultimately poorly realized,
Head Cleaner presents a set of songs that fall just a tad short of making for a good psychedelic rock album. While that's not to say that the majority of the songs aren't generally listenable, most come through as blandly reheated
Pink Floyd. An impressive cast of musicians, including
Shaw's
Bevis Frond bandmate Nick Saloman, fill out the arrangements but ultimately have their efforts buried in a needlessly cloudy production that makes the vocals and drumming come through rather hollow. Not a total loss, but disappointing nonetheless. ~ Matt Fink
