Jazzy drum'n'bass is hardly the full story on
Mocean Worker's debut album. From the darkside noir of "American Tabloid" (a James Ellroy tribute) to the excellent roots/standards homage on the evocative "Summertime/Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child," Dorn pulls off a minor masterpiece of the field. And the drum programming -- usually an afterthought with album-oriented junglists -- shines throughout, including on the highlights "What's Wrong" and "Overtime." ~ John Bush
