This CD from the
Robert Parker reissue series has 16 performances featuring an assortment of jazz-based violinists from an 11-year period. As with the other entries in this program, the music is unfortunately not placed in chronological order and includes both common items (
Joe Venuti's, "The Wild Cat," "Fiddle Blues" from
Eddie South and
Stephane Grappelli, and
Stuff Smith's "Onyx Club Spree") with obscurities (
Red McKenzie's "My Syncopated Melody Man,"
Laurie Bookin's "Limehouse Blues" and "Honeysuckle Rose" by Eric Siday and
Reg Leopold). Collectors will want to pick this one up due to the rare items while lovers of early jazz violin will find many selections of interest on the set.
