Het uit Los Angeles afkomstige Local Natives volgt met zijn tweede album, Hummingbird, het goed ontvangen debuut, Gorilla Manor (2010), op. Terwijl ze op tournee waren met The National in 2011, besloot het kwintet om aan de slag te gaan met gitarist Aaron Dessner van de uit Brooklyn afkomstige band, na lange discussies onderweg.
