I Love Bachata was one of numerous bachata compilations inundating the marketplace during 2010 (and doing fairly well on the Billboard Latin Albums chart, to be fair). There's no question that bachata had become one of the hottest Latin music styles by the end of the 2000s thanks to
Aventura and other urban-oriented acts, many of them from New York if not the Dominican Republic. With 24 tracks spread across two CDs, the Planet Records compilation
I Love Bachata mixes recent bachata hits from the past few years such as
Frank Reyes' "Esto No Puede Seguir Así," El Chaval's "Ya Me Cansé," and
Luis Vargas' "Soy Así" with older favorites such as
Juan Luis Guerra's "Bachata Rose,"
Alex Bueno's "Gotas de Pena," and
Los Toros Band's "Olvidarme de Ella." In general, most songs date back a few years at most; the
Guerra classic, which dates back to 1990, is an exception. While some of the featured acts are obscure, for instance
Carlos & Alejandra,
El Party,
Opalo,
Toke D'keda, and
Yoskar Sarante, many more are well known. In addition to
Reyes, El Chaval,
Vargas,
Guerra,
Bueno, and
Los Toros Band, some of the better-known acts featured on
I Love Bachata include
Andy Andy,
Zacarías Ferreíra,
Daniel Santacruz,
Los Ilegales,
Monchy & Alexandra,
Xtreme, and
Antony Santos. All in all, there's a lot of outstanding bachata compiled on
I Love Bachata, even if much of it is a bit dated.
