On its second album, the pop-electronica band plays ethereal yet propulsive songs such as the mysterious "The Shortest Way to China" and the hypnotic post-punk of "Odessa." "Crack of the Lake" is underpinned by a nice, rattling Peter Hook-style bass line, and the band's dramatic vocals and dark lyrics recall early-1980s goth pioneers such as the Sisters of Mercy.
