Adding to Kurdistan and Kobané, this third album from Nishtiman Project collects brand new recordings of this gathering of Kurdish musicians living in distant lands. The composer and Kamancheh and Tanbur player from Iran, Sohrab Pournazeri, the Iraqi percussionist and art director Hussein Zahawy and the Turkish Zurna, Balaban and Duduk player Ertan Tekin are at the heart of this project whose name is laden with hope, Nishtiman meaning homeland, a concept now forbidden to the disseminated Kurdish people. In 2015, these three sound poets have a first album behind them and some acclaimed concerts, and haven’t already dived into the following project that will lead to their vibrant homage to the martyr city of Kobanî. When they get inside the studio, they freely improvise among common themes that have evolved differently in Iran or in Anatolia. Their fresh mutual knowledge and their desire to deepen their complicity give a tangible intensity to their spontaneous and sensitive exchanges. When listening to them, we feel a healthy tension that leads to an obvious and eminently infectious pleasure. © BM/Qobuz
