Michael Brant DeMaria's compilation In the Flow is a collection drawn from such previous albums as The River, Ocean, and Siyotanka. It is, as a legend on the cover says, "music for emotional healing," and that healing is achieved through slow, spare, contemplative performances by one or more instruments. The Native American flute is prominent among them and is, for example, the only instrument played on "Siyotanka Reprise." Elsewhere, "Stillness" is a musical meditation for piano and acoustic bass, while "Moonlit Sea" is dominated by guitar harmonics with some added flute. String sounds and ambient echo effects are added to most tracks, creating the aural equivalent of a widescreen impression. The music is certainly calming and soothing, and such impacts on the emotions are bound to be benevolent. ~ William Ruhlmann
