Perennial bandmember and sidewoman
Leslie Sisson (
Wooden Birds,
Black Lipstick, and many more) started her songwriting outlet
Moving Panoramas upon moving back home to Texas from Brooklyn in the mid-2010s. The noise pop project made its recording debut as a trio with
One in 2015. Arriving four years later,
In Two features a band of twice the size, with only
Sisson remaining from the debut. The group's sound has grown accordingly, evoking influences including
Lush, contemporaries like
Alvvays and
Best Coast, and even the poppier side of
the Cure. "On Hold," in particular, is remindful of the latter's "Just Like Heaven," with swirling synths, echoing melodic guitar, and animated drums pushing a brisk tempo. "On Hold" has a decidedly less romantic lyrical tone, however, with
Sisson lamenting a budding relationship that stalled. While mostly up-tempo (there's a track here called "Dance Floor"), the album slows down a bit for the twangy "Forever Gone" in the middle of the track list, and mid-tempo closer "In Tune" makes room for vocal harmonies by
Nada Surf's
Matthew Caws. Another guest on
In Two,
A Giant Dog's
Sabrina Ellis, appears on the regretful "Whiskey Fight," which, like the rest of the album, keeps things bouncy and buzzing.
