C'est Dans le Sang Cadjin translates to "It's in the Cajun Blood." And that is what this CD from
Al Berard and Errol Verret is about, as the subtitle indicates: "Continuing the Cajun Tradition." The two musicians do their part in that process on this collection of traditional and original tunes.
Berard, who is the founder and leader of the renowned Basin Brothers, and Verret, who now plays accordion in the group, show their virtuosity on an array of instruments.
Berard plays fiddle, guitar, mandolin, triangle, and even the snare drum on one cut, while Verret makes his presence known on accordion and guitar. Together they produce a beautiful collection of waltzes and two-steps for dancers to enjoy. Among the standout selections are "Levee Breakdown Two Step"; "Fais Do Do Waltz," on which
Berard joins his wife, Kate, on vocals; "Waltz of the North and South"; "I Passed in Front of Your Door"; and the homage to legendary fiddler Dewey Balfa, "Song for Dewey." The enchanting music closes out with the one guest appearance on the CD. Micket Guidry performs the tune he wrote, "Harmonica Waltz," and the dancers are happy and ready to go home. ~ Rose of Sharon Witmer
