The features of
Jamboreebop that stand out are Sarah Simmonds' pretty vocals, various synthesizers, and the occasional real instrument. The synths are well used, as when they form a little English brass band à la
Sgt. Pepper's on "Fluorescent Sea." Several of the tracks verge on dance music, but aren't throbbing enough. "Ruby Sky" is an engrossing song; its steady drums and sliding bass guitar are ornamented by sampled church bells and synthesized organ, and (maybe) bagpipes. The best song on the album, "And Love Will Fall," features a processed violin, and choruses that actually sound like a crowd of people instead of like an angelic choir. ~ Kurt Keefner
